Iron-Sharpened Leadership with the Pennsylvania State Police

In June 2022 John Gronski conducted an Iron-Sharpened Leadership Workshop for leaders throughout the Pennsylvania State Police who are assigned to the eastern half of the state. These servant-leaders of the Pennsylvania State Police sacrifice every day in order to keep our communities safe.

The one-day leadership workshop was very interactive and included a variety of topics regarding servant-leadership. The group of over 50 PA State Troopers discussed areas of leadership including resiliency, character, decision-making, and cultivating trust in a team.

There were many takeaways from the session. Some of the leader’s comments afterward included ways they intend to apply leadership methods including communicating clearly and transparently with followers, asking for the opinions of those they lead, setting an environment where subordinate leaders are empowered to make decisions and display initiative, assisting followers with resiliency techniques, and placing the welfare of those they lead ahead of their own welfare.

In the spirit of continuing to learn and grow as leaders, several book recommendations were made including The Leadership Engine by Noel Tichy, Courage – The Backbone of Leadership by Gus Lee, The Speed of Trust by Stephen Covey, Iron-Sharpened Leadership by John Gronski, Patriot’s Creed by Kris Pronto, The Attributes by Rich Diviney, Its Your Ship by D. Michael Abrashoff, Leadership In The Shadows by Kyle Lamb, Fighter Pilot by Robin Olds, and Turn The Ship Around by David Marquet.

John Gronski will be conducting a two-day Iron-Sharpened Leadership and Resiliency Workshop with CSM (Ret.) JoAnn Tresco on September 15 and 16 at Nazareth, PA. For more information on the course and registration click here.
